Voting for the LAGB Student Committee

As you will know from e-mail messages you have received, the Linguistics Association of Great Britain has decided to establish a Student Committee. The committee will consist of five members, one of whom will be Chair. The Chair will also be a regular member of the Committee of the LAGB. The main tasks for the Student Committee will be:

  • to develop a procedure for distributing the money set aside for conference bursaries for PG conferences
  • to encourage the organisers of these conferences to collaborate
  • to organise procedures for consulting student members as required

There are eight candidates for the committee and each of them has been asked to provide a statement about themselves and their motivation for seeking election. You can access a candidate's statement by clicking on his or her name (statements open in new window):

All student members of the LAGB are allowed to vote. You vote by listing up to five names, without ranking them; every candidate you vote for will get one vote.

Send your vote by email to k.borjars@manchester.ac.uk, with the subject line LAGB vote. The message should contain your name and up to five candidates and nothing else. The message must reach me by 16 May 2008.

The candidate with the most votes will be elected chair.

If anything is unclear, please contact me in advance.

The LAGB is the leading professional association for academic linguists in Great Britain, and welcomes new members. .
