LAGB SponsorshipsThe LAGB offers two types of sponsorship: 1) student bursaries for unsalaried members to attend the annual meeting; 2) sponsorship (to a maximum of £300) of conferences organized by LAGB members. 1) Student Bursaries to attend the annual meeting of the LAGBUp to 15 bursaries are available for unsalaried members of the Association (e.g. PhD students) to attend the annual meeting of the LAGB. (Applications for membership may be submitted at the same time as applications for bursaries. Membership applications must be sent to the Membership Secretary.) Preference will be given to those who are presenting a paper. Completed bursary application forms should be sent to the President and must be received by the deadline for abstracts.Members who are submitting an abstract and who wish to apply for funding should include the application form with their abstract. The bursary normally covers the registration fee and travel within the UK . Those presenting a paper will receive an additional amount of GBP40. You can download the application form from here (pdf) or here (Word).
2) Conference SponsorshipsIf you are a member of the LAGB who is organizing a conference, you can apply for sponsorship of the conference to a maximum of £300. From the beginning of 2005 the LAGB has adopted a scheme of application rounds. You should bear these in mind when applying for sponsorship. It is not possible to apply for conference funding in retrospect. Your application will be considered for funding at the first decision date which occurs after your application. For example, if you submit an application in the middle of October of year N and someone else submits an application in January of year N+1 they will both be considered on, or shortly after, February 1st of year N+1. It is therefore a good idea to plan your submission in advance. To apply you should email a description of the conference to the LAGB president, Prof. Kersti Börjars (). The maximum grant will be £300. If more proposals are received than can be funded, the Committee will consider such factors in making the decision as: (i) the length of the conference (ii) the policy of submission (iii) the nature of the meeting. The LAGB committee will then consider the application at the nearest decision date after application. The decision dates are:
Application in respect of events for which attendance is by invitation only will not be eligible. Applicants must be LAGB members at the time of applying for the grant.
