The renowned linguist Prof Frank Palmer has died, aged 97 and a half years.
Frank was invited to Reading from Bangor in the 1960s to start the Department of Linguistic Science, which was responsible for many innovations in the field under his leadership, and was celebrated in 2015 when Prof Setter organised the 50th anniversary celebration, at which Frank was the most honoured guest.
It later merged with its co-institution the Centre for Applied Language Studies, to form the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies, and its work lives on currently in the Department of English Language and Linguistics, and the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences.
Dr Michael Garman, Professor Emeritus at Reading, has asked the LAGB to share this sad news with its members.
