A message from the British Academy

    Message # 8822886

As you may be aware, UKRI have launched a consultation on their open access policy (this will apply to outputs from research council funded grants, not QR; there will be a subsequent consultation on policy for REF after REF 2021). The Academy will be responding to the consultation, and to support our response, we would be grateful for any evidence and examples which Arts and Humanities Alliance members who publish books and journals can supply of the following:

    • Activities which you would not be able to undertake without income from publishing
    • Data on the proportion of authors in your publications who are not UK based
    • Steps you have taken towards greater open access in your publishing, particularly if you have adopted innovative solutions (for example, agreements with publishers to enable open access publication by society members in society journals)

It would be helpful if you could indicate whether you self-publish, or publish through an agreement with a commercial publisher. As ever, we are working to a tight timetable and would welcome input as soon as possible; in particular, it would be helpful to have it in advance of a planned discussion with UKRI on 24 March. The closing date for the UKRI consultation is 17 April.

Please direct any questions, and send evidence to Harriet Barnes, Head of Policy (HE and Skills) at the British Academy, h.barnes@thebritishacademy.ac.uk
